Who we are...
After jamming together for two decades, friends Joe Dickey and Henry and Cindy Whitesel took their music to the streets, and Crabgrass made its debut at a street festival in Annapolis in 1993. From there, the band played at gallery openings in the local area, retirement homes, and street festivals. Crabgrass was there at the historic closing of the Naval Surface Warfare Center on September 25, 1999. When the washtub bass player retired in 2001, Tim Bowen joined the band. The band has been playing regularly at the famous 49 West Restaurant and Café in downtown Annapolis since 2000.
Today, Crabgrass plays around the D.C., Maryland, Southeastern Pennsylvania, and Delaware areas, with occasional forays away from home. They bring their special blend of harmonies and instrumentation to traditional and contemporary bluegrass, gospel, folk, and country music.
Crabgrass is available to play at festivals, private parties, reunions, retirement villages, and music clubs and will entertain reasonable requests for unusual venues.
